Teranet: Canadian home prices decline 0.2 per cent in February

teranet-home-prices-downIt’s that time of the month again! The Teranet House Price Index report has just been released for the month of February and we’ve got the breakdown below.

Canadian home prices in February were down 0.2% from the previous month, according to the Teranet Index. This is the third decline in four months.

Prices fell in six of the 11 markets that Teranet surveys. Here’s a summary of the gains and declines in each of the metropolitan areas measured:

  • Quebec City +1.6%
  • Halifax +0.4%
  • Montreal +0.2%

home prices riseAnother month is nearly behind us and you know what that means — time for another Teranet House Price Index report.

Canadian home prices in January were up 0.1 per cent from the previous month, according to the Teranet Index. The slight rise followed two consecutive months of marginal declines.

Prices rose in seven of the 11 markets that Teranet surveys. Here’s a breakdown of the gains and declines in each of the metropolitan areas measured:

  • Halifax +0.7 per cent
  • Toronto +0.6 per cent

Guess what time it is!

It’s time for us to give you the full rundown of the Teranet-National Bank National Composite House Price Index… We’re reasonably certain that wasn’t your guess, but that’s certainly what time it is so let’s hop right into it.

For the second straight month, Canadian home prices in December declined 0.2 per cent from the previous month. According to the Index, “the two monthly retreats follow two months in which prices had been flat from the month before.”

Teranet: Canadian home prices fall in November for first time in almost a year

It’s been awhile since we’ve mentioned Teranet and “home prices dropping” in the same sentence.

According to Teranet-National Bank house price index data released today, Canadian home prices fell in November 2011, the first time the index declined since a brief correction during the three months ending November 2010.

The data notes a modest drop of 0.2 per cent after two months of flat prices.

The national composite index tracks registered prices of homes sold at least twice. The data indicates that prices fell in eight of the 11 metropolitan markets tracked. Read more
