Bonus bonanza! New BC home buyers bonus announced for up to $10,000

It seems like just the other day we announced a new perk for new home buyers in BC (it was!), and today we’re bringing you more great news, in the form of a New Home buyers bonus worth up to $10,000.

Here’s the rundown:

The B.C. government has announced plans to implement a temporary BC First-Time New Home Buyers’ Bonus, effective February 21, 2012, to March 31, 2013.

The bonus is a one-time refundable personal income tax credit, calculated at 5% of purchase price, worth up to $10,000.

Home builders rejoice! HST rebate cap increased for new homes

In a move that’s sure to spur the home building industry in BC, Finance Minister Kevin Falcon announced on Friday that the BC new housing rebate threshold will be increased to $850,000.

Right now, only homes up to $525,000 qualify for the rebate program, but the increase will make 90% of newly-built homes eligible.

The move is intended to ensure fairness and equity as BC transitions back to PST, so whether a newly constructed house is built fully or partially under HST people will pay an equal amount of tax.
