Who does more forecasting — TV weathermen or local real estate boards?

We’re inclined to say weather folks, seeing as they do it on the daily, but we’ve been seeing a lot of forecasting coming from places like the Toronto Real Estate Board and the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver lately. Why even today we saw a new forecast coming from the Calgary Real Estate Board!

Calgary Real Estate Board says residential market will turn corner in 2012

As demand increases for housing in the city, 2012 is poised to be the year Calgary’s residential real estate market turns the corner.

At least, that’s how Sana Stante, president of the Calgary Real Estate Board, sees it.

“I believe it’s imminent that we’ll start to see the result of all those economic indicators come to fruition and hit the ground, get traction this coming year. It’s got to happen,” said Stante in an interview at the end of 2011.

What are all those economic indicators he’s talking about? Well, there’s the increased net migration and the continued employment growth in both the city and the province. Those definitely don’t hurt! Read more

Calgary MLS sales in November stampede past last year’s figure

Oh yes, it’s true. According to the Calgary Real Estate Board, residential MLS sales in the great city of Calgary increased in November when compared with November 2010′s numbers.

Single family transactions hit 962 last month, an increase of 8.09 per cent over November 2010. The average sale price was $470,665, an increase of 3.31 per cent when compared to last year.

Condo sales also hit it big last month when compared to the November 2010 figures. Sales were up by 26.77 per cent, though the average sale price declined 3.97 per cent to $273,356.

“Despite any global economic cautions, consumers are actively seeking well-priced listings in the market, a reflection of their positive long-term outlook for the city,” said Sano Stante, president of CREB, in an article published by the Calgary Herald. Read more
