Tribute’s Residences at RCMI scores a perfect 100 Walk Score rating

Posted on | buzzhomeblog Posted in DEVELOPMENTS, ONTARIO | Leave a comment

When we took our tour of the construction site at Tribute CommunitiesResidences at RCMI development we couldn’t help but notice how closely the site adhered to the Three L Principle.

Unfamiliar with the Three L Principle? We’re actually quite sure you know it by heart. It goes like this: Location, Location, Location.

The 42 storey condo development, situated at the corner of Dundas and University, is a certified Walker’s Paradise according to the walkability index, Walk Score.

With a veritable bounty of attractions, dining options, and entertainment all within walking distance, it’s no surprise that Residences at RCMI scored a rare perfect rating on Walk Score.

For those who are hearing about Walk Score for the first time here, we guess we have some explaining to do.

Walk Score is a service that assigns a score on a scale of 1 to 100 for every address in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand based on the address’s proximity to amenities such as transit, restaurants, theatres and more! That’s pretty awesome, right? Read more

Welcome one and all to a new edition of Buzz Talk! This week we’re buzzing with Adam Ochshorn, president and founder of Grand Metropolitan Homes and co-founder of the exciting new development company, Curated Properties.

Adam has been in the development industry for over two decades and comes from a family of developers. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who knows more about the ins-and-outs of the Toronto development industry.

We buzz with him about why Edition/Richmond is destined to be a hot project, why Queen West is better than your neighbourhood, and how Toronto’s becoming a much prettier city.

Enjoy!

BuzzBuzzHome: When did you decide that a career in the development industry was the path for you?

Adam Ochshorn: Probably when I was 16 or 17. My father was in it, my grandfather was in it. When other kids had Sports Illustrated, I had Architectural Digest so I always liked design and architecture. Read more

Hold the phone! GTA low-rise sales overtake high-rise in January

Posted on | buzzhomeblog Posted in DEVELOPMENTS, MARKET, ONTARIO | Leave a comment

Yes folks, it’s true.

For the first time in twelve months, the low-rise sector of the GTA housing market outsold its high-rise counterpart.

According to BILD and their source of new home market intelligence, RealNet, there were 1,794 new homes and condo units sold in the GTA in January. The RealNet data indicates that 1,128 sales were low-rise, amounting to 63 per cent of the market share.

So what gives? We thought Toronto was the condo capital of the world? Doesn’t that mean high-rise sales should be through the roof? Read more

Rumours flying that Yonge and Bloor will be the home of Apple’s Toronto flagship store

Posted on | buzzhomeblog Posted in DEVELOPMENTS, ONTARIO, TECH, WATER COOLER | Leave a comment

This should be a familiar sight to any Torontonian resident. Stollery’s at Yonge and Bloor has been a go-to place to pick up a classy suit for decades. But who needs a suit shop when you could have a multi-level store of the future, selling iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, and i-whatever-else-your-heart-desires?

The word on the street is that Apple has reached an agreement to occupy 1 Bloor Street West. The news came in yesterday from Urban Toronto, who cited a “reliable real estate industry source”. UT sparked Internet-wide speculation that this will be the flagship store the city has been waiting for.  Read more

Andrew la Fleur is downtown Toronto Realtor and a long-time friend of BuzzBuzzHome. He has been blogging about downtown condos for the last 5 years. You can find him at truecondos.com. In this two-part series, Andrew presents his list of the Top Ten Condos that Changed Toronto. These buildings were all highly significant and have had major impacts not only on the landscape of the city, but also on how condos are bought and sold in Toronto. Check out part one of Andrew’s post here!

X2

X2 should be a very nice building when completed although that’s not why it’s famous. How the building was sold was what had such a big impact on the Toronto condo market. Until then, condos were sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and therefore you would have buyers and agents camping out for days or sometimes weeks at a time to secure the first spots in line. This is one development we’ve had our “eye on” lately…

Okay, enough with the puns already! Let’s get into the serious news you came here to read about — ION celebrated their grand opening last Saturday and it was a huge hit.

Hopeful homebuyers flooded the sales centre and many purchased suites at the ten storey development. Word on the street is the purchasers were end users, meaning they’ll actually be living in the building once it’s complete. Read more

1. One Bloor

If you asked the average Torontonian to name a condo building in Toronto I’m willing to bet a sizeable portion would mention 1 Bloor first (see up top for a pic). This project is famous for many reasons but most notably: the 2-week long line-up and hysteria that ensued when it first launched in 2007, the cancellation of that version of the tower, and the resurrection with Great Gulf in 2010 that practically sold out in just a few weeks.
