Reve Condos may be the first to bear architect’s name as new Toronto by-law makes it mandatory

August 18, 2011
A new by-law passed by the Toronto City Council requires every building over 1,000 square metres (or 10,700 square feet for you traditionalists) to prominently display the architect’s name on a plaque.

And guess who might be the first building to bear the architect’s name? None other than Rêve Condos, the new King West neighbourhood development by Tridel.

Rudy Wallman will be the lucky architect to have his name gracing a plaque at R
êve, so long as the by-law is in effect before construction wraps up.

Peter Milczyn, an
Etobicoke city councilor and chairperson of Toronto’s planning and development committee, introduced the by-law that the council passed in July. Milczyn is known as an architecture aficionado and hopes the new initiative will spur more vibrant discussions of Toronto’s architecture.

This should provide yet another incentive for architects to design aesthetically pleasing buildings. After all, EVERYONE will know if you were the one who designed a dull or downright ugly one…

Rudy Wallman won’t have to worry about that though. R
êve is an architecturally stunning work and is definitely one of Toronto’s most unique new buildings. The development has just opened its new presentation centre so head down to 560 Front Street West to check it out for yourself!
